Summary | 0001483: Intel QAT (Quick Assist Technology) support for checksum & ssl offload?
Description | finding that the majority of the cpu time seems to be eaten up by doing the SHA checksum calculations and for ssl when doing backups. Enough that I really have to disable checksums or more than double the backup time. This is obviously not good (especially when a full backup without checksums can take several weeks) and looses a lot of the accurate job/verification benefits. With the intel QAT cards that can offload md5/sha1/sha2/sha3, etc as well as handle compression (gzip, lz77, etc) at up to 100Gbit speeds is there any chance to get this as an option to utilize this as a compile time option? Would easily pay for itself in system overhead each and every backup. I looked through the issues and didn't see this asked anywhere, if I missed it would be interested.

Hello, thanks for your request. Without financial and hardware help the project will not be able to implement such feature. Most of our build and testing are done with some cloud hosted vm and container, and we would need to have access to QAT host enable somewhere. Maybe you can provide help of any sorts for this. please contact sales@bareos.com Regards |

as said without external help this will not happen.
